Eliminate the drinking age. Deregulate alcohol industry.

Leader! Most 1st Place Votes
Government mandates on alcohol percentage, classification of spirits and of course the drinking age have created the culture of alcohol consumption as a taboo "rite of passage" for teenagers.
In this environment, alcohol is seen as dangerous and alluring, and its consumption romantic and a point of personal pride and willful self-expression.
Let kids drink responsibly at home, deregulate the alcohol industry to allow for low-alcohol spirits and you'll greatly reduce abuse of alcohol among youth, and end the ridiculous government fetish with controlling what could be -- and would be -- innocuous behavior.

Make a 2nd DUI a felony.

Current law states no felony until a person gets a 4th DUI. I ask you, when you were growing up, did your mom ever say, "Do that again, and I will give you 3 more warnings, and THEN I will punish you"? Why are we letting these fools get away with repeat DUIs?

Take your kids to taprooms

Prohibition-era laws forced brewers to create taprooms that are limited to serving 48 ounces of beer per customer and which must close by 8 p.m. These also are kid-friendly establishments where kids can see mom and dad enjoy beer in a safe and responsible environment without being overserved. This creates a more wholesome view drinking for the kids.

Have a better home free program and more taxis

Everytime I have called for a taxi the line is always busy. So I have had to either walk home or relied on friends or family. Also the home free program should be better eplained and something to tell people which bars participate in it. Also more police officers downtown.

Tax the alcohol industry more.

Make it illegal to bring kids into the taproom at breweries. Sale only 3% beer in stores except liquor stores. Make the DUI laws stricter. Set up road blocks downtown for driving under the influence checks.

Have parents get involved...

Places like WIC, churches etc should have statistics and real life stories and information on hand to have parents make informed choices about responsible drinking and pass that down to their kids. Children learn from their parents. Maybe by next generation they will see that wisdom!

Improve public transit

The day you can get on a bus at 2:15AM and get a cheap ride home, is a day with less drunk drivers.
