While driving to the airport in Spokane last week, I was pulled over by an Idaho sheriff's deputy after he followed me for 10 miles to just before the state line. I had even stopped at a rest stop to use the bathroom, and the deputy waited for me and followed me from the rest stop another four miles before pulling me over. When he approached my vehicle, he asked to see my identification, but he never gave me a reason for pulling me over. He then asked if I had ever been in trouble with the law. I answered no. He then asked who my passenger was, and I told him she is my wife. He then asked for her identification. The officer took our IDs and went back to his car, returning five minutes later and very nearly throwing our licenses in our car window before speeding off in his cruiser. Several friends have had a similar experience in Washington and northern Idaho. Do you think Montanans are unfairly targeted on suspicion of hauling meth or other drugs?
